Some eating

My good friends Aron and Christine were in town, and they came over Saturday night for dinner and show off their 10 month old Isaac. He is quite possibly the cutest thing around.

I wanted something fun and tasty, that would also be easy to eat. So, here comes my world famous grilled Thai Beef Skewers! Of course, recipe is courtesy my good friend Tyler Florence's "Eat This Book". You don't believe me? Check out this pic:

So, I started with a near two pound hunk of sirloin.

Stick it in the freezer for an hour or so to make slicing into thin strip a bit easier. Plus, the fat hardens and is much easier to cut out the nasty bits. Then slice into strips as thin as you possibly can, then place on skewers (soaked for the necessary 20 minutes!).

Then, make the marinade with 1/4 cup each soy sauce and rice vinegar, couple of minced garlic cloves, one tablespoon brown sugar, and two tablespoons chili paste. Marinate for about an hour, turn once to evenly distribute the marinated goodness. Grill on high heat for about a minute on each side.

Included in the evening's feast was an Asparagus, Pine Nut, and Orange Chili Noodle Salad, and Thai Peanut Dipping Sauce for the beef. Mmmm!

That was Saturday. Now on Monday, I cooked up some tasty breakfast. Took the day off work for family reasons.

First, I had some leftover goose fat from Christmas dinner.

Roasting a goose renders so much fat, that you must drain the roasting pan every couple of hours. I might have to post my about my "Christmas goose roasting adventure". Now I've recently discovered how tasty this fat can be. What else would I do but let it cool, and carefully pour into ice cube tray, and freeze. Keep it in a ziploc (tm) bag in the freezer and you can get goosey anytime you want.

So, I boiled some red potatoes and let them cool down for a bit. Quartered them and put in a medium heat skillet with a couple o' cubes of hot goose. Season with salt and pepper. After a few minutes I added some orange and red bell pepper.

To that I added a three egg and cheese omelette and ate it up! I forgot to take a pic of the final meal because I was so excited. The goose fat really added an amazing flavor and filled the kitchen with the best aroma. Mrs. Steel tried some of the potatoes, but chose not to listen to me when I informed her that there was not one, but two tasty cubes of goose fat.
